New Release (Lightweaver) and daily update.

January 18th, 2007

Today Skortched Urf’ Studios relases another Advanced Class following our “Hero” theme.

The Light Weaver sees the world differently than other people, even other psions. They perceive the universe as a place of indescribable beauty, of interlaced quantum strings and cascades of photons, of waves of energy and howling solar winds. They wield incredible power, including the innate ability to fire laser blasts more powerful and more accurate than anything the military’s ever dreamed of. In addition to raw fire power, a Light Weaver is an artist, capable of warping light to bring their dreams to life as cunningly created holograms. They are skilled illusionists and excellent infiltrators, artists and soldiers.

UPDATE: My internet access at home has been really slow and screwy. Some sites I can reach, others I can’t. Cable TV works and the network shows good through-put. Not sure what the deal is. Otherwise this would have been released yesterday. (This had better not affect my XBox Live connectivity; will be on tonight playing Halo II and possibly Gears of War!)

Dept. 7 Adv. Class Update: The Forbidden released.

January 7th, 2007

Still payin homage to the heros we loved way back when, as well as today. Snake Eyes never looked so good….

Restraint, restriction and self discipline define the Forbidden’s life. The Forbidden is instantly recognizable by his distinctive costume and all concealing mask. The Forbidden draws great mystical power from their obsession with concealment, with secrecy. The leather and steel face they show the world becomes a part of them, and most Forbidden view their mask as a truer indication of who they are then the flesh and blood face they were born with.

Forbidden do not gain their power from study, and ancient spellbooks hold little interest for them. Instead, the Forbidden draw their power from within, focusing their will and intellect to the point they can accomplish incredible magical and psionic feats through sheer determination. Some Forbidden embrace disciplines as diverse as monastic self flagellation, ki-focusing kung fu, bondage lifestyle elements, modern psychotherapeutic techniques and cult leadership tactics. Regardless of where their inspirations come from, the Forbidden uses their diverse array of skills and psychic gifts to shape the world in the same way they shape their body.

The Unbound Soul Released!

January 3rd, 2007

The intro flava’ text….

“Look, right there, under the collar of his shirt. Joey, magnify sector 17-3 by a quarter. You see?”

Following the older detective’s pointing Dallas Cowboy’s commemorative pen, every member of the task force strained to see the blur of pixels buried somewhere in sector 17-3. The image projected on the wall screen leapt forward and one of the assembled FBI agents thought maybe, just maybe she saw something hiding in the folds of the bank robber’s suit collar.

“A dog collar maybe? What’s that about?”

The lead detective shook his head and brought up two other windows on the wall screen, each showing grainy security camera footage of two other bank robberies. A few seconds of work, and the new images were zoomed in to show the obvious: all three robbers were wearing the same dark leather choker around their throats.

One of the other detectives leaned forward in his seat, squinting at the badly pixilated image. He tapped the side of his forehead thoughtfully.

“Same gang? A cult of some kind?”

The lead detective shrugged, still starting at the frozen images. He thought for a moment.
“If it is it’s not something I’ve seen before. And according to their families, none of our robbers had any connection with any kind of cult, no gang connections. Fred Reeds, the Arizona robber, he had a bust for pot back in high school, but other than that… no criminal records, no major money problems…..nothing in common”

“So the question becomes, why did three random citizens suddenly decide to become bank robbers and multiple murderers? What possessed ‘em?”

Are your sins so hideous you know that when you finally die that you’ll burn forever, and you would do anything to cheat God’s judgment? Or do you love life so much, that you’ll become something other than human in order to keep seeing new mornings, watching history unfold as an outsider? Or are the final sensations of death so ecstatic that you’ll do anything to feel them again and again and again?

No matter your reasons, you’ve taken one step beyond: you’ve become an Unbound Soul, an immortal being that doesn’t die like other men. The body you were born with isn’t a vital part of you isn’t a vital part of you, it is merely a vehicle for your soul, which you can abandon in extremis, for convienience, or in seeking a moment’s pleasure. Your restless, indestructible soul is bound to mortal life with your Psychopomp Cords, arcane ribbons, spiritual containment systems that tie you to this existence, and are the source of your cruel powers.

Shotgun Surgeon Advanced Class released

January 3rd, 2007

As promised, we just released the Shotgun Surgeon Advanced Class Update!

“Where you want it Jake? You know I’m surgical with this b!#ch. That homeboy in the chair, who do you think put him there?”

-Alonzo Harris, Training Day

In capable hands, the shotgun is one of the planet’s most versitile longarms, capable of filling most combat roles merely by swapping out ammo or modifing barrel length. The Shotgun Surgeon takes the shotgun’s innate versitility and sheer destructive ability a step farther. Anyone can kill with a shotgun, but a true Shotgun Surgeon can kill and maim with style, or if they’re feeling merciful (or if the target is worth more alive) they can use their shotgun’s speciality rounds to subdue and incapacitate.

Dept. 7 Adv. Class Update: American Nomad released.

December 28th, 2006

Part hero, part Grifter; reminiscent of the A-Team, Rambo or an 80’s Chuck Norris flick…and ready for your D20 Modern game!

America’s a big place, and you’ve walked or drove across it all. You’ve spent time in the city; sure, you may even have a (rarely visited) house somewhere. But your real home are the places in between: the sleepy little towns that hide dark secrets, the farms bought out by the big conglomerates, the mountain logging camps run by corrupt overseers, the forgotten desert prisons in need of a revolution. For you, America is in the details, and America needs a protector.

You arrive in a needy town in the dusty red light of the setting sun, and have an almost supernatural ability to find trouble. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the road for knowledge, for peace of mind, or because you’re running from prosecution for a crime you didn’t commit, once trouble finds you, you become a hero one more time. You can’t help it. You never strike first, never respond raw force when reason and quiet words will suffice, but once your tormentors cross the line…. you are an unstoppable, righteous champion, who always fights for peace and always protects helpless innocents.

Gravity Slinger Advanced Class Released

November 21st, 2006

In honor of my new favorite show (involving a cheerleader and some guy named Hiro trying to save the world or something) we are releasing a number of “Hero” oriented PDF’s in our Dept. 7 Advanced Class Update line! Why wait for a rule book that may never come out? With these Advanced Classes you can use your special abilities to liven up any D20 Modern Campaign.

The Gravity Slinger

The rapist’s bones snapped like twigs. The burning airliner hung suspended in mid air, just inches from the roiling ocean waves. The overturned SUV floated free of your trapped kindergartener. Gravity Slingers may be hero or villain, space warping terrorist or highly trained government agent, or might hail from any country on the planet; but all Gravity Slingers have one thing in common. They’re alive now because their spectacular powers emerged at the last possible second and saved them when they should have died.

Some Gravity Slingers turn to science to understand their instinctive command over the universe’s fundamental forces. Occasionally, genius physicists and mathematicians’ achieve such a profound understanding of their disciplines they spontaneously develop the ability to warp space and gravity. These gravity savants often act as mentors for young Gravity Slingers, helping the powerful rouge psions master their gifts. Other Gravity Slingers fear their abilities, remembering the devastation and death the first manifestation of their powers caused, dampening down their abilities with drugs, discipline and even psi-controlling cybernetics. Gravity Slingers can be deadly assassins, using their telekinetic gifts to pinch off blood vessels in a target’s brain, while others are excellent soldiers and super-agents, using their abilities to keep their comrades alive.

This Advanced Class allows you to play a new breed of Hero! Included in this PDF are a host of new abilities including Combat Gravikinesis, Slingshot Flight, Kinetic Shroud and more!
